Herons to compete in CSA Team National Championships

The William Smith College squash team will take part in the 2012 College Squash Association Team Championships this weekend, Feb. 24-26. The Herons will play in the D Division, competing for the Epps Cup.

There will be 42 teams participating in six divisions. Matches will be played at Harvard University's Murr Center and at MIT's Zesiger Sports and Fitness Center.

The Herons, ranked No. 25 in the most recent CSA rankings, are the top seed in the D Division. Smith College, Vassar, St. Lawrence, Boston College, Georgetown, Virginia and Haverford will all be battling for the Epps Cup. William Smith will begin the weekend with a match against No. 32 Haverford on Friday, Feb. 24 at 11 a.m. at Harvard.

The Herons finished the regular season with a 7-11 overall record. Sophomore Tyler Mitchell recorded a team-high nine wins this season. Senior Katie Riordan is right behind her with eight victories, including a 3-0 mark at No. 7. Both Mitchell and Riordan posted 7-3 records in their last 10 matches of the regular season.

William Smith will take on either No. 29 Boston College or No. 28 St. Lawrence in its second round match on Saturday, Feb. 25.

Now in its 14th varsity season, William Smith is seeking its fourth CSA Cup, having previously captured the 2006 Walker Cup, the 2007 Walker Cup and the 2009 Epps Cup.
