ITHACA, N.Y.—The William Smith lacrosse got within one goal with 42 seconds remaining, but could not get the game-tying goal, as Ithaca edged the Herons 12-11 in a non-conference game played today. William Smith is now 5-7 overall and the Bombers improve to 8-3 overall.
Tracy Rivas and Nikki Dahl led Ithaca with four goals. Dahl added two assists and a team-high four ground balls. Kaitlyn Hoffay contributed two goals and Kim Armbruster logged a goal and an assist. Siobhan Sullivan recorded a game-high four caused turnovers.

Kathleen Ragan each scored three goals for William Smith. Ragan added an assist and picked up a team-high five ground balls. Senior

Callie Frelinghuysen chipped in three assists and shared a game-high with four caused turnovers, and senior
Kathryn Gillan scored a goal and won a game-high six draws.
The Bombers scored first just 2:13 into the first. Rivas scored her 32nd goal of the season to give Ithaca the 1-0 lead. The Herons then took the momentum with four unanswered goals. Scheibel notched back-to-back goals and Johnson fed Ragan, who sent home a shot to stretch the William Smith lead to 3-1. Johnson scored a goal of her own a little over two minutes later to make it 4-1.
Ithaca answered with a 3-0 run of their own. Nikki Dahl started it at 13:55 to cut the Bombers' deficit to two. Rivas took advantage of a free position to make it 4-3. With 10:24 left in the first half, Dahl tied things up at 4-4. Scheibel scored her second of the day after a pass from first-year
Katie Sipple to make it 5-4. With 3:06 on the clock, Racquel Lividini tied the game at five and Armbruster followed with a goal under a minute later to give the Bombers a 6-5 advantage at the break.

Katie Dexter tied things up for William Smith at 6-6 just 15 seconds into the second half, but the Bombers responded with three straight goals to take a 9-6 lead.
At 7:24, Gillan scored her 14th of the season after a pass from Frelinghuysen to get William Smith within two, but Hoffay found the back of the net to put the Bombers back up 11-8. Fourty-nine seconds later, Ragan put the Herons within two again, but this time Rivas scored to make it 12-9. Ragan capitalized on a free position with 3:10 remaining. It was her 26th goal of the year to make the score 12-10. Frelinghuysen found Johnson, who drilled a shot into the net with 42 seconds left on the clock to get William Smith within one, but the Bombers held off the Herons for the remainder of regulation.
Ithaca held a slight 27-24 edge in shots and a 26-25 lead in ground balls. The Herons won 15 draws, while the Bombers came away with 10. Ithaca was successful on 13-of-15 clear attempts, while William Smith finished 9-of-12.
William Smith will be back in action on Friday, April 20, when they host Clarkson for a Liberty League game on Boswell Field at 4 p.m.
