The Hobart College tennis team fell to host Allegheny College 6-3 in its season opener in Meadville, Pa., today. The match was played as a part of the Allegheny's Mary J. Heath Invitational.

The Statesmen were scheduled to play a second match in the Invitational, but it was cancelled due to inclement weather.

Hobart came out of doubles play down 2-1. Sophomore Michael Fields and senior Sam DeLuccia earned an 8-5 win at the No. 2 spot. DeLuccia and senior Peter Cruice picked up the Statesmen's two wins in singles. DeLuccia came out on top at No. 2, 6-2, 6-4. Cruice defeated the Gators' Frank Mosconi 6-0, 6-2 at No. 4.

The Statesmen will be back in action Sept. 28-30 when they compete in the ITA Northeast Regional Championships in Ithaca, N.Y.
