Prior to the start of the game, both teams observed a moment of silence to honor the victims of a tragic bus accident involving the Seton Hill University women's lacrosse team on March 16.

Rachel Hughes grabbed a game-high three ground balls, won three draws and caused two turnovers. Potter also recorded three draws and Sipple caused two turnovers. Senior

Marina Guigli stopped 10 shots in all 60 minutes in goal for William Smith.
Connie Nielsen led the Pride with a game-high five goals. Meghan Flanagan chipped in two goals and won a game-high six draws. Anne Versprille played all 60 minutes in goal for Springfield and finished with nine saves.
West scored first after a quick pass from Connolly for William Smith at 1:22. Nielsen answered with back-to-back goals for the Pride to make it 2-1. The duo of West and Connolly struck again to even things at two at 5:50. At 15:08, Kelly Gallo found the back of the net to put Springfield up 3-2. Dexter logged a free position tally at 18:32 to tie the game for a second time. The Pride notched two more goals before the break to take a 5-3 lead.
Just 1:51 into the second half, Nielsen registered her fourth goal of the morning to stretch the Pride's lead to three. At 3:38 Ragan fed Sipple for a man-up goal and just under two minutes later first-year
Geneva Calder sent a shot into the back of the net to get William Smith within one. At 10:48, an unassisted tally by Nielsen made it 7-5.
Then the Herons came storming back with a 5-0 run. Sophomore
Cat Gorman started things blasting a shot into the back of the net at 11:45 to make it 7-6. Just under a minute later, Potter tied things up with a free position tally. At 13:20 Sipple took a feed from Ragan and sent home her shot to give William Smith an 8-7 lead. Dexter set up Potter who put the Herons up by two at 23:30. Dexter scored a goal of her own with three minutes left in the game to make it 10-7. With 1:52 remaining, Flanagan took advantage of a free position to get Springfield within two, but that was as close as the Pride could get.
The Herons enjoyed a 27-21 advantage in shots and a 15-11 edge in ground balls. The Pride won 11 draws, while William Smith came away with nine. The Herons were successful on 12 of 13 clear attempts. Springfield went 12-for-18.
William Smith will be back in action on Thursday, March 21 when it takes on Buffalo State at 4 p.m.
