Hobart tennis cruises to 8-1 win over Oneonta

The Hobart College tennis team cruised to an 8-1 victory over visiting Oneonta in a match played on the indoor courts at Bristol Field House this morning. It was the Statesmen's first dual match win this season.

Hobart is now 1-2 overall. The Statesmen will travel to Orlando, Fla., over spring break, where they will play five matches. The first one will be played on March 17 against Earlham at 4:30 p.m.

Hobart swept doubles play against the Red Dragons. Senior Bruce Grant and sophomore Michael Fields breezed to an 8-1 win at No. 1. The pair improved to 4-2 at the top spot. Seniors Sam DeLuccia and Alex James downed their competition 8-0 at No. 2, and senior Peter Cruice and sophomore Luke DeLuccia posted an 8-3 win at No. 3.

The Statesmen earned wins at Nos. 2-6 in singles action. Sam DeLuccia posted a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 2, and James edged his opponent 6-4, 5-7, 10-5 at No. 3. Cruice cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 triumph at No. 4. He leads Hobart in singles with a 3-2 overall record. Fields registered a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 5, and junior Ben Robinson notched a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 6.
