Statesmen edged 5-4 by Continentals

Results

The Hobart College tennis team was edged 5-4 by Hamilton College in a match played in Clinton, N.Y., this afternoon. The Continentals improved to 5-6 overall, while the Statesmen are now 3-11.

Hobart came out of doubles play up 2-1. Senior Bruce Grant and sophomore Michael Fields battled for a 9-7 victory at the top spot. The pair lead the Statesmen with eight doubles wins this year. Seniors Alex James and Peter Cruice cruised to an 8-2 victory at No. 2.

Grant earned his second win of the evening, topping his Hamilton opponent 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2 singles. James rallied for his second victory of the match. He dropped his first set 6-2, but won the next two 6-4, 6-4. It was James' fifth singles win this season.

Hobart will be back in action on Saturday, April 13, when it hosts Vassar at 3 p.m.
