The Hobart College tennis team earned a 7-2 win over host Union in a match played in Schenectady, N.Y., this afternoon. The Statesmen improved to 5-13 overall.
Hobart came out of doubles play up 2-1. Seniors
Bruce Grant and
Sam DeLuccia posted an 8-6 win at the top spot and sophomore
Luke DeLuccia and junior
Nicholas Schoning logged an 8-5 win at No. 3.
Sophomore
Michael Fields cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 3 and
Luke DeLuccia made it 4-0 with a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 5. Grant clinched the overall victory for Hobart, registering a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 2.
Sam DeLuccia defeated a tough opponent at the No. 1 singles spot. He won his first set 6-4, but was edged 7-5 in the second. DeLuccia then rallied for an impressive 10-0 victory in the super breaker. Junior
Ben Robinson defeated his Union opponent 6-3, 3-6, 10-6 at No. 4.
The Statesmen will be back in action tomorrow, April 21, when they host Rensselaer at noon.
