The William Smith lacrosse team earned the third seed in the 2013 Liberty League Tournament, and will take on No. 2 seed St. Lawrence in a Liberty League semifinal on Friday, May 3, in Troy, N.Y. The game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
The Herons finished the regular season with a 10-6 overall record and a 7-2 mark in conference play. William Smith sits atop the Liberty League in assists per game (6.06) and ranks fourth in points per game (17.94) and caused turnovers per game (8.94).
Sophomore
Katie Sipple leads the Herons with 67 points on a team-high 41 assists and 26 goals. Senior
Kathleen Ragan has posted a team-high 37 goals and 20 assists for 57 points. Sophomore
Rachel Hughes leads the team with 51 ground balls, 29 caused turnover and 39 draws. First-year
Marina Guigli has played the majority of minutes in goal this season. She is sporting a 9.86 goals against average and a .464 save percentage.
St. Lawrence is 11-5 overall and also earned a 7-2 mark in Liberty League play. The Saints earned the No. 2 seed, as they edged William Smith 8-7 back on April 12 in Canton, N.Y. St. Lawrence ranks second in the conference in ground balls per game (22.94) and save percentage (.473). Brigid Hurley leads the Saints with 56 goals and 57 points. Carly VanTassel has dished out a team-high 15 assists. Holly Noyes has notched team highs of 46 ground balls, 48 draws and 22 caused turnovers. Adden Cunningham has seen the most time in goal and has recorded a 9.76 goals against average and a .457 save percentage.
Top-seeded and host RPI will take on No. 4 seed Vassar in the other semifinal at 2 p.m. on Friday.
