The Hobart College tennis team advanced to the 2013 Flower City Invitational Championship, but fell to Rochester 8-1 this morning. The Statesmen are now 2-1 overall, while the Yellowjackets improve to 2-0.

Hobart topped Elmira and Oneonta yesterday on its way to the championship match, while Rochester defeated RIT in its semifinal.

Junior Michael Fields downed his competition 6-1, 6-2 at the top singles spot to earn the Statesmen their lone victory. First-years Michael Rusk and Matt DePrima battled at the No. 2 doubles spot, but were edged 8-6.

The Statesmen will be back in action when they compete in the ITA Northeast Regional Championships in Ithaca, N.Y., Sept. 20-22.
