The William Smith College squash team split its first two matches of the Smith College Round Robin today. The Herons defeated Connecticut College 6-3 and then fell to Tufts 7-2.
William Smith is now 4-5 overall this season. Against the Camels, the Herons picked up wins at Nos. 4-9. Sophomore
Justine Shank topped her opposition 9-11, 11-6, 11-4, 11-8 at No. 4. First-year
Phoebe Carlisle battled for a five game win at No. 5 (11-9, 10-12, 11-9, 2-11, 11-5). Senior
Nellie Lindecke earned an 11-8, 15-13, 11-8 win at No. 6, and sophomore
Erin Casey cruised to an 11-9, 11-4, 11-7 triumph at No. 7. At No. 8, senior
Hannah Meyer picked up an 11-2, 9-11, 11-3, 11-7 victory and senior
Tyler Mitchell won 11-5, 11-3, 5-11, 11-6 at No. 9.
Against the Jumbos, Meyer and Mitchell logged wins at No. 8 and No. 9. Meyer topped her competition 3-2 at No. 8 and Mitchell cruised to a 3-0 victory at No. 9.
The Herons will be back in action tomorrow, Jan. 25. William Smith will take on Smith at 9:30 a.m., Colgate at 1 p.m., and Wellesley at 2:30 p.m.
