Statesmen edged by Oglethorpe in 1st spring break match

Results

The Hobart College tennis team was edged 5-4 by Oglethorpe in its first match of its spring break trip to Orlando, Fla.  The Statesmen are now 3-3 overall.

Oglethorpe is ranked No. 14 in the Atlantic South Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. The Petrals won all three doubles matches and that proved to be the difference. Oglethorpe claimed the victories at No. 1 and No. 3 singles to secure the win. First-year Michael Rusk rallied to top his competition 6-7, 6-1, 10-3 at No. 2. First-year Jake Criss triumphed 6-3, 6-1 at No. 4 and classmate Carson Smith notched a 2-6, 6-2, 10-6 victory at No. 5. First-year Danny Kot posted a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 6.

The Statesmen will be back in action tomorrow, March 17. Hobart will take on Bethel in its first match of the day. It was moved up to 8 a.m. and will be played at Star Island Resort and Club. The Statesmen will face Puget Sound at 7 p.m.
