Box Score GENEVA, N.Y.—The No. 4 Cortland women's lacrosse team got a game-high eight points on a goal and seven assists from Erica Geremia, as the Red Dragons defeated William Smith 22-6 in a non-league game played this afternoon on Boswell Field.

Cortland improves to 2-0 this season. Tara Monaghan logged a game-high five goals and won a game-high eight draws. Emma Hayes-Hurley and Taylor Reh each chipped in four goals. Marilyn Farrell posted two goals and an assist and Kristen Ohberg added a goal and two assists. Nicole Bello and Ashley Gentile added two goals each. Jessica Lavelle picked up a team-high four ground balls. Liz Ingalls played the opening 49:24 and made five saves. Jaclyn Beshlian came in for 10:30 and made one stop.

Sophomore Geneva Calder led the Herons (0-2) with two goals. First-year Allie Flaherty and junior Katie Sipple each added a goal and an assist. Flaherty also caused a team-high three turnovers. Junior Rachel Hughes shared a game-high with four ground balls. First-year Sarah Honan played the opening 32:50 in goal and made five saves. Sophomore Allie O'Hara came in for 27:10 and stopped three shots.

Calder scored the first goal of the game on a free position putting William Smith up 1-0 2:52 into the game. The Red Dragons took a 2-1 lead off goals by Monaghan and Gentile. Sipple tied the game up at 2-2 at 7:21. A free position tally by Hayes-Hurley followed by another Red Dragon goal by Taylor Reh gave Cortland a 4-2 lead. Sophomore Kate Byrne scored her first goal of the year with 14:05 on the clock, but the Red Dragons closed out the first half with a 7-1 run for an 11-4 lead at the break.

Junior Cat Gorman notched her first goal of the year just 35 seconds into the second half, but Cortland continued to control things scoring seven straight goals. Monaghan scored three goals in the run and Hayes-Hurley added two. With 20:41 left in the game, Calder notched her second goal of the afternoon, but the Red Dragons logged four more goals to close out the contest.

Cortland finished with a 35-14 advantage in shots and a 19-15 edge in ground balls. The Red Dragons also held a 19-10 advantage in draws. William Smith succeeded on 12-of-20 clear attempts, while Cortland was successful on 9-of-15 clears.

The Herons will be back in action on Saturday, March 8, when they host Nazareth for another non-league game on Boswell Field at noon.
