First half goals lead Dutchmen past #15 Herons

Box Score GENEVA, N.Y. - The fifteenth ranked William Smith field hockey team dropped to 5-2 on the year after being shut out by Lebanon Valley, 2-0, this afternoon.

The Dutchmen (7-0) were led by Lauren Brumbach who registered a goal and an assist in the contest. Just past the eight minute mark in the first half, Brumbach let a blast go from the top of the cage that was deflected into the back of the net by Molly Van Leuvan. In the 25th minute, Brumbach got one of her own when she ripped a shot into the back of the net.

William Smith turned up the pressure in the second half, firing 11 shots on net. They were unable to solve Lebanon Valley goalie Kendra Moll who made 10 saves in the game. Despite being heavily guarded, first-year Hannah Wood registered a game-high seven shots. The Herons best opportunity came with just under eight minutes left, Alexandra Frary had the goalie beat but Dutchmen defender Rachel Gorman stopped the ball right on the goal line.

Senior Catherine Hare got the start in net for William Smith and made seven saves. Moll played all 70 minutes for Lebanon Valley.

The Herons enjoyed a 15-12 shot advantage and a 10-3 edge in penalty corners.
