CORTLAND, N.Y.—The William Smith College golf team competed in the 36-hole Martin/Wallace Invitational at the par 72 Cortland Country Club this weekend. For the third straight season, the Herons finished seventh out of nine teams.
Senior
Kara Capstraw shot a team-best 91 in the opening round and closed with her best round of the season, finishing with an 85 and placing 26th out of 52 golfers. Sophomore
Madeline Dietz tied for 32nd place with rounds of 94 and 92. First-year
Natalie Powers was one stroke behind Dietz in 36th place. Junior
Annabel Cryan completed the Herons' team score.
Ithaca's Sharon Li took home individual medalist honors, finishing the tournament three over. She led the Bombers to the team title by 18 strokes over Methodist University. Cortland was third followed by St. Lawrence, Le Moyne, LIU-Post, William Smith, St. John Fisher, and Eastern University.
The Herons will wrap up their fall schedule on Oct. 11-12, competing in the Anne S. Batchelder Invitational hosted by Wellesley.
