Herons sweep St. John Fisher in fall finale

GENEVA, N.Y. – The William Smith College tennis team closed out the fall portion of its schedule with a 9-0 win over St. John Fisher in Bristol Field House this afternoon.

William Smith (1-0) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the match, sweeping doubles play. Sophomore Michaelann Denton and junior Hannah More won 8-0 at No. 1 doubles. Sophomore Taylor Ferrari and first-year Connie Froass also won 8-0 at No. 3, beating St. John Fisher's Claire Herrman and Eileen Fleming. At No. 2 doubles, sophomore Alex Cattie and first-year Sydney Ferry bested Caroline Seaberg and Katey Padden 8-3.

In singles play, More notched her second win of the day at No. 2, winning in straight sets 6-0, 6-0. First-year Alex Greenberg clinched the match for the Herons, defeating Katey Padden 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3. Denton and Cattie collected 6-1, 6-1 wins at No. 1 and 5 singles respectively. Ferry closed out the match with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles.

William Smith's fall season is now complete. The Herons are scheduled to begin their spring season Feb. 28, when they host Skidmore.
