Hobart sweeps Colby-Sawyer in final match of spring break trip

ORLANDO, FLA. – The Hobart College tennis team defeated Colby-Sawyer 9-0 in its final match of its spring break trip to Orlando, Florida this afternoon. The Statesmen close out their southern swing with a 3-1 record and a 7-1 overall record.

Hobart took control of the match early winning all three doubles matches. Sophomore Michael Rusk and first-year Colin Marker cruised to an 8-1 victory in the No. 3 spot while senior Luke DeLuccia and sophomore Danny Kot knocked off their Charger opponents 8-3 at No. 2. Senior Michael Fields and sophomore Matt DePrima fended off a tough challenge to win at No. 1 8-6.

With a 3-0 lead, all six Statesmen players won their singles matches in straight sets. Marker made quick work of his match at No. 2 winning 6-0, 6-0. First-year Harry Nichols and Singer won, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 3 and No. 4 respectively while DePrima lost only one game at No. 5 besting his Colby-Sawyer opponent 6-1, 6-0. Fields took home a Hobart victory at No. 1, 6-0, 6-4, and sophomore Carson Smith closed out the match with a 6-4, 6-1 win in the No. 6 spot.

Hobart returns to the court on March 24, when it travels to Ithaca, New York for a 4 p.m. contest against Ithaca College.
