SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The 24th ranked Skidmore College men's tennis team collected an 8-1 victory over Hobart this afternoon. The loss drops the Statesmen to 10-6 overall this season while the Thoroughbreds improve to 9-7. Hobart forced third sets in three of the six singles matches.
Skidmore took an early 2-1 lead in doubles play, notching wins at No. 1 and No. 3. Sophomores

Michael Rusk picked up Hobart's lone win with a 9-8 (7-2) win at No. 2 doubles. Senior

Matt DePrima took a 6-3 lead at No. 1 doubles but could not close out the match, losing 8-6. First-year

Luke DeLuccia jumped out to a 4-1 lead at No. 3 before falling 9-7.
The Thoroughbreds swept singles play to secure the 8-1 team victory. Despite dropping the first set, 6-0, Rusk won the second set 6-3 to force a decisive third set at No. 1 singles. Ka Yuen Leung won the third set for Skidmore, 7-6 (7-2). Kot forced a third set but lost his match, 6-0, 3-6, 6-1. DePrima's match also went to a third set. With the match already in hand for Skidmore, DePrima and Steven Koulouris played a super tiebreak. Koulouris emerged victorious, 3-6, 6-3, 10-8.
The Statesmen will return to the court on Wednesday, April 22, when they travel to Hamilton College. The match in Clinton, New York, is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
