CLIFTON SPRINGS, N.Y.—The William Smith College golf team wrapped up its season with a sixth place finish in the Liberty League Women's Golf Championships this afternoon. The Herons completed the 36-hole tournament with their two lowest team scores of the spring at the par 71 Clifton Springs Country Club.

Senior
Kara Capstraw finished tied for 19th place in a field of 36 golfers to lead William Smith. She followed an opening round 90 with a closing round of 88, matching her lowest round of the spring. Sophomore
Madeline Dietz finished in 23rd place, five strokes back. She carded one of only two birdies on the weekend on the 363-yard par four 15th hole. First-year
Natalie Powers opened with a 91 her best round of the spring and her second best effort of the season. She ended up tied for 27th place. Senior
Maddie Carens completed the Herons' team in 31st place.

For the third time in as many Liberty League Championships, William Smith placed sixth. The Herons carded a 374 on Saturday and a 375 on Sunday. Their opening round was their lowest 18-hole score of the spring and the team's lowest ever in Liberty League Championship play.

New York University, led by individual medalist Alyssa Poentis, won the team title and the accompanying NCAA Championship berth. The Violets enjoyed a 34-stroke victory over second place Mount Holyoke. Vassar was third followed by St. Lawrence, Wellesley, William Smith, and Union. Poentis was the Day 1 lead with a six-over 77 and turned in the best score on Day 2 with a 78 to finish five strokes ahead of a three-way tie for second place which included two-time defending champion Claire O'Neil of St. Lawrence.Â
