The Hobart College tennis team will compete in the 2015 Liberty League Men's Tennis Tournament this weekend, May 2-3, in Ithaca, New York. The matches will take place at the Reis Tennis Center at Cornell University.
The Statesmen finished the regular season with a 10-8 overall record and a 4-3 record in Liberty League play. Hobart clinched the No. 4 seed in the conference tournament and will face Skidmore, the reigning Liberty League Champion, on Saturday, May 2, at 3 p.m.
First-year
Miles Singer is a team best 16-10 in singles play this year. Singer has played a majority of his matches at Nos. 4 and 5 singles, posting a 9-2 record between the two spots. Senior
Michael Fields and sophomore
Matt DePrima have a team-high 11 victories in doubles play as a duo. The pair has played 15 matches at No. 1 singles, winning seven.
The Thoroughbreds are the No. 1 seed in the tournament, finishing the regular season with a 10-7 overall record and a perfect 7-0 mark in conference play. No. 30 Skidmore closed out the regular season with a 7-2 win over St. Lawrence. The Statesmen and Thoroughbreds met on April 18, with Skidmore emerging victorious 8-1.
Kit Sanderson, who is ranked as the 18th best singles player in the Northeast by the ITA, is a team best 18-6 this season. Â He has compiled a 10-2 record at No. 2 singles. Jonah Epstein, and Kai Yuen Leung are 12-4 in doubles play including a 9-1 record at No. 2 doubles.
Rensselaer, who finished the year 13-3 and 6-1 in Liberty League play, will be the No. 2 seed and will take on Vassar on Saturday at 6 p.m. The winner of the Liberty League Tournament will receive the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championships.
