GENEVA, N.Y.—The No. 21/22 Hobart College football team will host the University of Rochester on Saturday, Nov. 12, in the regular season finale for both teams. The Centennial Cup game is scheduled to kickoff at 12:05 p.m. on Boswell Field at the Caird Center for Sports and Recreation.
The Centennial Cup celebrates the 100th meeting between the Liberty League rivals. Inaugurated in 2007, the Statesmen are 8-1 in Cup games, including victories in each of the past five meetings. All-time, Hobart leads the series, which began in 1892, 53-48-7.
Hobart Athletics will recognize the 18 members of the Class of 2017 prior to the start of the game. The Senior Day ceremony is slated to begin at 11:30 a.m.
The Statesmen (8-1, 5-1) can clinch at least a share of their 11th Liberty League Championship with a win over Rochester (1-7, 0-6). Hobart is currently tied with St. Lawrence for first place in the conference standings, but holds the tie breaker over the Saints thanks to last weekend's 34-18 win in Canton.
The Statesmen offense averages a league-high 323.8 yards passing per game (17th in the nation). Junior quarterback
Shane Sweeney has completed 61 percent of his passes for 2,889 yards and 30 touchdowns. He's seventh in the nation in passing TDs, ninth in passing yards, and 30th in pass efficiency (153.4).
Hobart boasts an impressive trio of starting wide receivers, junior
Brandon Shed, senior
Jack Pfohl, and senior
Sean Cunningham. Shed has 65 receptions for 1,109 yards, and 15 touchdowns, all Hobart single season records. He's third in the nation in receiving touchdowns, seventh in receiving yards per game (123.2) and 24th in receptions per game (7.2). Pfohl sports 50 receptions for 626 yards and eight touchdowns, totals that would have led Hobart in each of the past three seasons. Cunningham, who missed two games due to injury, has 31 receptions for 384 yards and three TDs.
On defense, inside linebackers
Almamy Conde and
Jedh Downey lead the Statesmen with 84 and 75 tackles, respectively. Hobart leads the Liberty League in sacks per game (2.89). Senior defensive end
James Hedger leads the charge into the backfield with eight sacks.
The Yellowjackets enter the game looking to stop a six-game slide following a last-minute 37-34 loss to WPI last Saturday.
Quarterback Daniel Bronson has completed 54 percent of his passes for 1,523 yards, and 12 touchdowns. He's also the team's leading rusher with 668 yards and five touchdowns on 130 carries. Shawn Silleman is his leading receiver with 25 catches for 341 yards and two TDs.
The defense is led by Ricky Sparks' 57 tackles. Josh Churchin is second with 54 stops, including a team-high 4.5 tackles for loss.
