The William Smith College squash team opened the 2016-17 season with two wins in Buffalo, N.Y., today. The Herons downed Washington (Mo.) 9-0 and then topped Denison 8-1.

Gabby Fraser earned an 11-0, 11-3, 11-3 win at the top spot in her first match as a Heron. At No. 2, junior
Michaelann Denton earned an 11-6, 11-2, 11-4 victory, and senior
Delaney Teceno defeated her opposition 11-3, 11-7, 11-3 at No. 3. First-year
Djenebo Ballo posted an 11-6, 11-5, 11-3 win in her first collegiate match at No. 4. Senior
Allie Rubin registered an 11- 1, 11-4, 11-1 triumph at No. 5, and sophomore
Madison Bradley won 11-3, 11-3, 11-4 at No. 6. At the No. 7 spot, senior
Brooke Hayes recorded an 11-6, 11-5, 11-0 victory, and sophomore
Hattye Hytla downed her opponent 11-0, 11-2, 11-0 at No. 8. Sophomore
Stacy Avigail Maceda won by forfeit at No. 9.

Against the Big Red, the Herons were only tripped up at the top spot. Denton won 11-4, 11-1, 11-4 at No. 2, and Teceno cruised to an 11-1, 11-1, 11-1 win at No. 3. Ball triumphed 11-5, 11-6, 11-0 at No. 4, and Rubin cruised to an 11-1, 11-1, 11-3 win at No. 5. At the No. 6 spot, Bradley posted an 11-1, 11-1, 11-4 victory and Hayes added an 11-0, 11-2, 11-0 win at No. 7. Hytla won 11-0, 11-6, 11-2 at No. 8, and Maceda won by forfeit at No. 9.
