The William Smith College squash team dropped the opening match of the Pioneer Valley Invitational tonight. The Herons fell 9-0 to Amherst.
 
No. 24 William Smith is now 6-5 this season. No. 17 Amherst won 3-0 at Nos. 2-8. Heron first-year Gabby Fraser and junior Anna Worcester dropped their matches 3-1 at Nos. 1 and 9, respectively.
 
The Herons are back in action tomorrow when they take on Smith and Connecticut College tomorrow at 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., respectively.
