GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart College football team will host St. Lawrence University on Saturday, Nov. 4 on Boswell Field at the Caird Center for Sports and Recreation. Kickoff is scheduled for 11 a.m.
Prior to the start of the game, Hobart honor its 18 seniors, who will be playing their final regular season home game. During their collegiate careers, they have helped the Statesmen to a 33-9 overall record, a 19-5 mark in the conference, two Liberty League Championships, two NCAA playoff bids and one NCAA quarterfinal appearance.
Hobart will also use the contest to raise awareness for the One Love Foundation, an organization committed to teaching young people the difference between healthy and unhealthy relationships.
The 2016 Liberty League co-champions, Hobart and St. Lawrence are squaring off for the 89th time since first playing in 1901. The Statesmen lead the series 50-36-2, winning 24 of the past 25 meetings, including a 34-18 triumph last season in Canton.
Hobart brings a 5-3 overall record and 1-2 mark in conference play into Saturday's showdown.
The Statesmen lead the league in both scoring (33.0 ppg) and total offense (408.0). Senior quarterback
Shane Sweeney is the conference's top passer, completing 60 percent of his passes for 2,119 yards and 16 touchdowns. Senior wide receiver
Brandon Shed has caught a team-high 43 passes for 615 yards and five touchdowns. For his career, he has 163 receptions for 2,815 yards and 32 touchdowns. Shed is 28 yards and 18 receptions away from the Hobart career records. Senior running back
Joe Letizia leads the ground game. He's gained 454 yards and scored six touchdowns this year.
On defense, Hobart gives up 20.4 points per game and 385.1 yards (109.8 rush/275.4 pass). Sophomore linebacker
Jedh Downey is second in the league with 78 tackles. Senior linebacker
Almamy Conde is second with 56 stops to go with a team-leading two interceptions. Seniors
Brandon Ball and
Zackary Robak share the team lead with 3.5 sacks.
St. Lawrence is 2-6 overall and 1-3 in the Liberty League. Of the Saints' six losses, three have been by a single possession, including last week's 21-17 loss to RPI. The Engineers scored the game-winning touchdown with just 17 seconds left in the fourth quarter.
SLU is averaging 17.6 points per game and 333.1 yards (123.1/210.0). The Saints lead the league in time of possession at 31:53 per game. Senior quarterback Sean Richardson has completed 54 percent of his passes for 1,403 yards and 12 touchdowns. He's been sacked 17 times and thrown six interceptions. Senior wide receiver Vincenzo Ferraro has a team-high 49 receptions for 486 yards and two TDs. Junior wide receiver Travis Marnell adds 39 catches for a team-high 630 yards and six TDs. Junior running back Rodrick Payne is averaging 4.4 yards per carry and 88.2 yards per game with a pair of touchdowns.
On defense, St. Lawrence yields 21.3 points per game and 312.5 yards per game (152.4/160.1). The Saints lead the Liberty League in opponent first downs (15.4/g), opponent third down conversion (28.6%) and opponent fourth down conversion (22.2%). Senior linebacker Skylar Williamson has a team-high 86 tackles. Junior defensive end Tyler Mirabile paces the conference in tackles for loss (14.5) and sacks (8.0).
