The William Smith College squash team opened the 2017-18 season with wins over Washington University and Bard in the 2017 Buffalo Round Robin today. The Herons topped the Bears 8-0 and defeated the Raptors 8-1.

Gabby Fraser started the season with an 11-2, 11-8, 11-2 win at No. 1. Senior
Cashel McCarthy earned an 11-4, 11-3, 11-4 win at No. 2 and classmate
Anna Worcester won 11-4, 11-4, 11-2 at No. 3. Senior
Peyton Capute recorded an 11-4, 11-4, 11-6 win at No. 4, and first-year
Kira Tejeda won 11-2, 11-8, 11-0 at No. 5. At No. 6, first-year
Alice Caplan earned a 12-10, 11-4, 11-3 victory at No. 6 and sophomore
Maddie Saiontz triumphed 11-6, 11-7, 11-2 at No. 7. Junior
Stacy Avigail Maceda won 11-7, 11-2, 12-10 at the No. 8 spot. The win over the Bears marked the 200th career victory for Head Coach
Chip Fishback. After today his record stands at 201-172 in 20 seasons.

In the victory over Bard, Fraser won 11-1, 11-0, 11-2 at the top spot and McCarthy posted an 11-8, 11-2, 11-7 victory at No. 2. Worcester won 11-1, 11-2, 11-0 and Capute produced am 11-0, 11-2, 11-5 victory at No. 4. Tejeda triumphed 11-2, 11-0, 11-1 at No. 5 and Caplan defeated her Raptor opponent 11-1, 11-2, 11-0 at No. 6. At No. 7, Saiontz blanked her opponent 11-0, 11-0, 11-0 at No. 7 and Maceda won 11-0, 11-1, 11-1 at No. 8. The Raptors won by forfeit at the No. 9 spot.

The Herons are back in action on Saturday, Nov. 11, when they compete in the 2017 Colgate Round Robin. William Smith takes on Colgate at 9:30 a.m. and faces Vassar at noon.
