Hobart captures 12th consecutive Liberty League title

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.- For the 12th consecutive year, the Liberty League Men's Rowing Championship plaque will return to Bristol Gym. Hobart won gold medals in the varsity and second varsity eights on its way to capturing the conference championship.

For the second consecutive year, the men's championship used a points system based on the finish of the varsity eight and second varsity eight boats to determine the champion. The Statesmen claimed the crown thanks to a first place finish in both races. Hobart finished the day with a total of 35 points, Rochester Institute of Technology was second with 28 points.

In the second race of the day, the Men's Collegiate 2V8, the Statesmen second varsity eight of Brendan Buckley, Kemal Turksonmez, Dilan Bower, Steven Bunce, Lukian Maratovic, Parker Cornman, James Davis, Andrew Seski, and Joshua Hobika cruised to a gold medal, crossing the line with open water at 6:59.370. St. Lawrence was second 17.5 seconds back with the Tigers finishing third. Union and the University of Rochester rounded out the field. Hobart's 2V has won seven consecutive gold medals in the event at the conference championship regatta.

Entering today's championship, the varsity eight race had been contested 12 times with the Hobart varsity eight claiming gold medals 12 times. This afternoon Andrew Seta, Sam Ash, Anthony Giovenelli, Ben Robinson, Harrison Luce, Alberto Wray, D. Griffin Marsh, Henry Vachon, and Miles Cornman extended the streak to a baker's dozen with a gold medal on Fish Creek. The Statesmen powered down the 2000-meter Fish Creek course in a time of 6:39.690, seven seconds ahead of RIT. Union crossed the line third with the Yellowjackets and the Saints rounding out the field.

Hobart will be back on the water on Sunday, April 30, when it travels to Princeton, N.J. The Statesmen will race against Columbia, Navy, and George Washington.
