GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart College football team will close out its season-opening, four-game homestand on Saturday, Sept. 23, against Endicott College. Kickoff at Boswell Field is scheduled for noon.
The Statesmen improved to 2-1 with last week's 56-30 Homecoming win over Shenandoah University. Hobart's ground game was impressive, producing a season-high 368 yards rushing. Senior running back
Joe Letizia was named the Liberty League Offensive Performer of the Week after gaining a career-high 162 yards and scoring a pair of touchdowns. Prior to the Homecoming game, Hobart's best rushing performance as a team was 160 yards in the win over St. John Fisher.
First-year running back
Dakota Harvey also rushed for more than 100 yards, finishing the night with 131 yards and three touchdowns. It's the first time Hobart has had two players over 100 yards in the same game since Sept. 21, 2013 (Steven Webb '14, 150, and Conner Hartigan '16, 119, vs. Utica).
At the end of the night, Hobart ran for seven of its eight touchdowns, tied for second on the school's single game list. First-year
Kyle Hackett tied the Hobart PAT made record, by converting all eight of his extra points. He's the fifth Statesman to make eight PATs in a game.
Hobart's starting offensive line was also honored last week. Sophomore right tackle
Micah Holloway, junior right guard
Jack Koch, senior center
Alex Helm, senior left guard
Stephen VanHoesen and junior left tackle
John Deveney helped clear the way for a season-high 517 yards of offense against the Hornets.
Endicott comes to Geneva with a 1-2 record, looking to rebound from a 31-26 loss at MIT last week. The Gulls are led by former Statesman Kevin DeWall '00.
Endicott is averaging 373.3 yards per game on offense (126.0 rush/247.3 pass). Senior running back Lavante Wiggins is the team's top rusher with 213 yards and a pair of TDs. Sophomore quarterback Joe Kalosky has completed 59 percent of his passes for 695 yards and five touchdowns. First-year tight end Riley Shanley leads the Gulls in receptions (14) and receiving yards (178) and shares the team lead in receiving touchdowns (2).
On defense, Endicott is allowing 458.3 yards per game (218.3/240.0). Junior inside linebacker William Rivera leads the team with 33 tackles, more than any two of his teammates combined. He also has a team-leading three tackles for loss. Sophomore cornerback Jesse Simoni has all three of the Gulls' interceptions this season.
Saturday's game will be the fourth all-time meeting between the schools, with Hobart prevailing in the previous three showdowns.
The game will be broadcast live on WEOS-FM (89.5/90.3). Fans can also follow the game online with
