The William Smith College squash team downed Vassar College 9-0 today in its first match of the 2018 Liberty League Championships hosted by the Brewers in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.

The No. 23 Herons improve to 6-5 overall this year. Vassar is ranked No. 28 in the latest College Squash Association rankings.

Gabby Fraser led William Smith with a 13-11, 11-6, 10-12, 11-6 victory at the No. 1 spot. Senior
Cashel McCarthy posted a 13-11, 11-4, 11-9 win at No. 2, and first-year
Jo Pacheco defeated her Vassar opposition 13-11, 11-5, 11-6 at No. 3. At No. 4, junior
Madison Bradley registered an 11-9, 11-9, 11-3 victory. At No. 5, senior
Anna Worcester won 11-7, 11-5, 11-8, and sophomore Djeneba Ballo produced an 11-4, 8-11, 8-11, 11-4, 11-9 win at No. 6. Senior
Peyton Capute railed for a 4-11, 12-10, 14-12, 11-6 victory at No. 7. At No. 8, sophomore
Karina Lazaro won 12-10, 13-11, 6-11, 11-4, and sophomore
Maddie Saiontz completed the sweep with an 11-3, 6-11, 11-8, 12-10 win at the No. 9 spot.

The Herons will be back in action tomorrow, Jan. 28, when they complete the Liberty League Championships at Bard College. William Smith takes on the Raptors at 10:30 a.m., before facing St. Lawrence at noon.
