The William Smith College squash team split its two matches today at the Liberty League Championships. The Herons downed Bard 9-0 in the morning and then were edged 5-4 by St. Lawrence.

In its first match of the day, William Smith faced the No. 38 Raptors. The Herons earned 3-0 wins at Nos. 1-9. Sophomore
Gabby Fraser led the way with an 11-2, 11-5, 11-6 win at the top spot. Senior
Cashel McCarthy won 11-3, 11-2, 11-2 at No. 2, and first-year
Jo Pacheco triumphed 11-4, 11-1, 11-1 at No. 3. At No. 4, junior
Madison Bradley topped her opposition 11-6, 11-2, 11-1, and senior
Anna Worcester earned an 11-3, 11-2, 11-1 victory at No. 5. Sophomore Djeneba Ballo won 11-1, 11-2, 11-0 at No. 6, and senior
Peyton Capute produced an 11-2, 11-3, 11-2 win at No. 7. Sophomore
Karina Lazaro downed her Bard opponent 11-3, 11-3, 11-2 at No. 8, and sophomore
Maddie Saiontz won 11-1, 11-1, 11-3 at No. 9.

The Herons faced the No. 19 Saints in the afternoon with the Liberty League title on the line. William Smith earned wins at No. 1-3 and triumphed at No. 5, but St. Lawrence secured the championships with victories at Nos. 4 and 6-9. Fraser picked up her second win of the day at No. 1, 11-3, 11-6, 11-2. McCarthy battled for an 11-7, 8-11, 11-4, 9-11, 11-4 at No. 2, and Pacheco registered a 12-10, 12-10, 11-4 win at No. 3. Worcester won 11-7, 2-11, 11-7, 11-8 at No. 5.

The Herons are back in action on Thursday, Feb. 8, when they travel to take on Hamilton College at 4:30 p.m.
