Dubrovsky, Anderson compete at ITA Cup

Box Score ROME, Ga.-Hobart College junior Alan Dubrovsky and sophomore Walker Anderson concluded their fall seasons at the 2018 ITA Cup at the Rome Tennis Center at Berry College this weekend. Dubrovsky finished fourth in the Men's Division III Singles tournament while Dubrovsky and Anderson placed eighth in the doubles draw.
 
Dubrovsky, who earned a spot at the ITA Cup after winning the singles draw at the ITA Northeast Regional, began his tournament on Thursday afternoon against Carnegie Mellon's Chaz Downing, the tournament's No. 3 seed. Dubrovsky notched a 7-5, 6-3 victory for his 11th win this fall. In Friday's semifinal match, he took on No. 2 seed Chad Leduff from the University of California Santa Cruz. Leduff won 6-2, 6-2 to secure a spot in the championship match. This morning, Dubrovsky took on Jonathan Jemison from Emory University in the 3/4 match. Jemison, who was the No. 1 seed in the draw, bested Dubrovsky 6-3, 6-2. Dubrovsky finished the weekend fourth overall. Tufts' Boris Sorkin won the ITA Cup 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 over Leduff this morning.
 
Dubrovsky was the first Statesmen to win an ITA Regional Championship since Hobart Hall of Famer Adam Schapiro '96 won the Rolex Intercollegiate Tennis Championship in September of 1995. Dubrovsky earned All-American honors as winner of the regional draw.
 
Dubrovsky and Anderson earned a spot in the ITA Cup doubles draw after winning the doubles draw in the ITA Northeast Regional. They drew No. 4 seed James Wei and Varun Shanker from Caltech in the first round. The Beavers emerged from a tightly contested match with a 7-5, 7-5 victory. In the consolation draw, Dubrovsky and Anderson were match up against Carnegie Mellon's Downing, and Daniel Levine. The Tartans advanced to the consolation final 6-3, 6-0. This afternoon Dubrovsky and Anderson played Trinity Texas' Jordan Pitts and Wilson Lambeth. Pitts and Lambeth won the match 6-1, 6-4.  Dubrovsky and Anderson finished the tournament eighth overall and are 7-5 overall as a doubles team this fall. Emory University's Jonathan Jemison and Adrien Bouchet went on to win the main draw.
 
Dubrovsky and Anderson earned All-American honors after winning the doubles draw at the ITA Northeast regional two weeks ago.
 
Hobart has now completed the fall portion of its schedule. The Statesmen will return to the courts Feb. 23, 2019 when they host Oneonta.
