Lerch takes 2nd in Hobart’s fall finale

PITTSFORD, N.Y.—Hobart College sophomore Daniel Lerch finished second in the Nazareth Invitational this weekend. The 36-hole tournament was played at Monroe Golf Club and Irondequoit Country Club.

Lerch opened the weekend with a 75 at Monroe, four over par and just one stroke off the lead. He closed the tournament with a six-over 78 at Irondequoit. It wasn't enough to keep pace with Oswego's Sean Paul Owens, who used rounds of 74 and a one-under 71 to take individual medalist honors. However, Lerch finished one shot ahead of Nazareth's Bryce Dorough and St. Lawrence's William Wilson, who tied for third place.

Three other Statesmen finished in the top 10. Junior Teagan Meehan tied for fifth place, matching Lerch's opening round 75 and closing with an 83. Senior Jace Kienzle tied for seventh place, carding an 84 followed by a 75. The three 75s are the lowest rounds of the fall by a Statesman.

Senior Griffin Thrush was 10th thanks to rounds of 80 and 81.

Oswego won the team title by nine strokes over St. Lawrence. Hobart was 24 strokes behind the Saints and the host Golden Flyers rounded out the field.

The tournament was Hobart's final event of the fall season. Thrush posted the team's best scoring average (81.9), 0.1 ahead of Kienzle.
