William Smith downs Rochester, Colgate 8-1

GENEVA, N.Y.-The William Smith College squash team notched a pair of 8-1 wins at the William Smith Round Robin at the Smith Squash Center on Saturday. The Herons defeated Rochester and Colgate to improve to 8-8 overall on the season.
 
In the morning match, William Smith took on the Yellowjackets. The Herons posted 3-0 wins in the top eight spots. Junior Gabby Fraser won 11-2, 11-4, 11-2 in the No. 1 spot. Seniors Madison Bradley, Michaelann Denton and Stacy Avigail Maceda earned wins at Nos. 2-4. Bradley defeated Maria Majid 11-2, 11-3, 11-2 at No. 2, Denton bested Nicole Rinaldi 11-3, 11-0, 11-3 at No. 3, and Maceda knocked off Hannah Goldring 11-3, 11-1, 11-2 at No. 4. In the fifth spot, junior Maddie Saiontz earned an 11-4, 11-3, 11-0 win over Sarah Saco. Fellow junior Hattye Hytla topped Karlin Li 11-1, 11-7, 11-5. First-years Gretchen Vietor and Saige Arseneault won at Nos. 7 and 8, respectively.
 
Against the Raiders, William Smith collected seven 3-0 wins to secure the overall victory. In the closest match of the day, Arseneault rallied from a 2-0 deficit to win her match 3-2 in the No. 8 spot. She defeated Maggie Davis 7-11, 9-11, 11-5, 11-3, 11-6. In the No. 1 spot, Fraser swept Freesia Ferrantino 11-4, 11-2, 11-1 for her sixth win of the season.  In the No. 2 spot, Bradley bested Christine Johnson 11-2, 11-2, 11-4. It was Bradley's eighth win of the season. Denton logged her team leading ninth win of the season, topping Amanda Gastel 11-1, 11-5, 11-3 in the No. 3 spot. Maceda bested her opponent 11-6, 11-7, 11-3. Saiontz won 11-5, 11-6, 11-1 at No. 5. Hytla topped her opponent 11-7, 11-7, 11-7 at No. 6 and Vietor emerged victorious 11-6, 11-6, 11-0.
 
William Smith will conclude its regular season on Tuesday, Feb. 12, when it hosts Hamilton at the Smith Squash Center. The match against the Continentals is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m.
