#15 Herons host Rochester on Senior Day

The 15th ranked William Smith lacrosse team will return to Boswell Field at David J Urick Stadium Saturday when it hosts Rochester. Opening draw is scheduled for 3 p.m., as part of a double header with the Hobart lacrosse team.
 
The game will complete a doubleheader on Boswell Field. Hobart will take on Mount St. Mary's at Noon. Heron Society and SAA members, alumni and alumnae, and parents of HWS students are invited to the pregame tailgate in the stadium parking lot. The event will be hosted by the Office of Alumni and Alumnae Relations.
 
It will be the final regular season home game for the Herons' lone senior, Bizzer Gahagan. In her four years on campus, William Smith has compiled an overall record of 60-17. The Herons went 34-2 in conference play, won three Liberty League titles and made three trips to the NCAA tournament, including a quarterfinal appearance in 2017. Gahagan has seen action in all 67 games during her career. She has 60 goals, 22 assists and 82 points.
 
William Smith brings a 13-2 overall record and an 8-0 mark in conference play into Saturday's game. The Herons lead the Liberty League and are 19th in the nation in scoring defense (6.93 gpg). The Herons have used an 11-game winning streak to vault into 13th in the nation in winning percentage (.867).
 
Sophomore Ellie Burns leads the team with 45 goals and 52 points. She is third in the conference, averaging 3.00 goals per game. Junior Rachel Slagle has a team best 21 helpers this season. She is tied for second on the team with 32 points. First-year Payton McMahon (20g, 12a) and sophomore Anna Murphy (19g, 12a) each have 30-plus points. Sophomore Mekayla Montgomery leads the team and the Liberty League in caused turnovers with 34. She is second in the Liberty League in ground balls (48) and in draw controls (75).
 
Sophomore Olivia Hofmann and Jules Kennedy have split time in goal this season. Hofmann is 7-0 this season and leads the Liberty League in save percentage (.545) and goals against average (6.36). Her goals against average ranks sixth in the nation and her save percentage is tied for 10th. Kennedy is second in the conference in GAA (7.59) and fourth in save percentage (.465).
 
Rochester is 5-8 overall and 2-6 in the Liberty League. The Yellowjackets are looking to bounce back from an 11-7 defeat against RIT Wednesday. Rochester is led by Jamison Seabury, who has a team-high 35 goals and 41 points this season. Maggie McKenna and Mary Panapento are tied for second on the team with 20 goals. Carlie Bendavid has spent the majority of minutes in goal this season, posting a .442 save percentage and a 10.74 GAA
 
Saturday's game marks the 44th meeting between William Smith and Rochester. The Herons hold a 40-3 advantage in the series, including a 21-1 mark in Geneva.  
 
Saturday's game will be William Smith's One Love Game. The One Love Foundation was created to raise awareness about relationship and domestic violence. The One Love Foundation serves as a platform to educate others on the early warning signs of abusive relationships in hopes of preventing tragedies from happening. Students will be tabling during both the Hobart and William Smith lacrosse games to raise money for the foundation.
