#23 Herons edge #24 Hamilton 5-4

CLINTON, N.Y.—The No. 23 William Smith College squash team defeated No. 24 Hamilton 5-4 this evening. The Herons are now 12-3 this season.
 
First-year Marcela Marquez Martinez earned her seventh consecutive win. She defeated Hope Worcester 11-3, 11-8, 11-9 at No. 1. Senior Gabby Fraser earned a win at No. 2, defeating Natalie Harrity 11-4, 11-6, 11-6. Fraser is now 11-2 this season. Junior Jo Pacheco won a five game battle at No. 3. She defeated Katie Hodulik to improve her record to 6-1 at the No. 3 spot this season. First-year Maia Dreishpoon earned a win at No. 8 over Daisy Sulavik. Dreishpoon is 10-5 overall this season. Senior Karina Lazaro topped Ellie Arnold 14-12, 11-6, 11-5 at No. 9.
 
The Herons will be back in action next Saturday, February 8, when they travel to Rochester, N.Y. for the Liberty League Squash Championship. The Herons will open the championship with a match against St. Lawrence at noon.
