GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart College cross country team finished second in the Cross Country Only Conference Championship at rain-soaked Seneca Lake State Park this afternoon. The Statesmen placed four runners in the top 14 of the 67-runner field.
Matt Fridel led Hobart, covering the 8-kilometer course in 28:55.3 and finishing ninth overall. It was his fastest 8k of the season, marking a 48.4-second improvement.
Ian Albreski and
Henry Loudon were 11th and 12th, respectively. Albreski cross the line in 29:13.3, an 18.9-second improvement over his season's best 8k. Loudon stopped the clock at 29:30.7, 15.2 seconds better than his previous best 8k.
Jonathan Garcia finished 14th with a time of 29:37.8.
Jason Montecalvo was Hobart's fifth finisher, placing 22nd in 30:22.9.
Clarkson's Kevin Cronin was the individual winner, posting a time of 26:27.8, more than 30 seconds ahead of the runner-up, Morrisville's Peyton Jones (27:03.9). The Golden Knights had eight runners in the top 10 to take the team title by 38 points over the Statesmen. The Mustangs were third, 39 points behind Hobart. Paul Smith's was fourth followed by SUNY Canton, Medaille and Hilbert.
Hobart will return to action at 11:45 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 23 when the Statesmen run in the Hamilton College Tune-Up.
