Statesmen compete at Mike Woods Invitational

GENESEO N.Y.—The Hobart College cross country team competed in the Mike Woods Invitational hosted by SUNY Geneseo this morning. The Statesmen placed 27th in the 8-kilometer race held at the National Warplane Museum.
 
For the second straight race, Jonathan Garcia led the Statesmen, traversing the course in 28:52.6 to place 220th in a field of 404 runners. It was his career best 8k time, lowering his previous mark set at the Yellowjacket invitational by 22.1 seconds. Ian Albreski was the second Statesmen runner across the line, posting a time of 29:32.2 to place 266th. Matt Fridel was close behind, stopping the clock at 29:43.7 and finishing 277th overall. Henry Loudon and Jason Montecalvo rounded out Hobart's scoring, placing 281st and 299th, respectively. Loudon stopped the clock at 29:45.9, and Montecalvo turned in a time of 30:09.2. Albreski and Loudon's times were their best this season. Today's race was the first 8k of the season for Fridel and Montecalvo.
 
Geneseo's Ezra Ruggles led the Knights to victory taking the individual title with a time of 24:10.3. He was 5.1 seconds ahead of the runner-up, Suffolk's Matyas Csiki-Fejer.
 
Geneseo posted a team score of 32 to claim the team title by 46 points over Middlebury. Otterbein was third with 91 points.
 
The Statesmen will be back in action Oct. 16 when it hosts the Cross Country Only Conference Championship at Seneca Lake State Park.
