Hobart lacrosse great Tom Grimaldi '85 is one of seven lacrosse legends being inducted into the Upstate Lacrosse Foundation Hall of Fame. The Class of 2021 will be recognized Sunday, Oct. 17 at Traditions at the Links in East Syracuse, New York.
The celebration begins with a 4 p.m. reception, followed by dinner at 5 p.m. and the induction of the Hall of Fame class at 6 p.m. Ticket information will be announced later this month.
Grimaldi, who was inducted into the Hobart College Athletic Hall of Fame in 2012, was a dominant force on the lacrosse field. He helped the Statesmen to a four-year record of 44-12 (.786) and four straight national championships. The high-scoring attackman and four-year letterman finished his career ranked in the top 10 in Hobart history in career goals (10th), assists (6th), and points (7th).
After producing 27 points alongside his brother, Larry '82, in 1982, Tom enjoyed a breakthrough sophomore season, netting a career-high 37 goals and 19 assists for 56 points, a performance that earned him second team All-America honors. His junior year saw him record 45 points (26g, 19a) on his way to first team All-America accolades. Grimaldi was the leading scorer in the 1983 and 1984 NCAA tournaments with 19 and 13 points, respectively. Grimaldi saved his best for last, registering a career-high 62 points on 33 goals and 29 assists as a senior. The 1985 National Player of the Year repeated as a first-team All-American and earned Hobart's Judge Kane Memorial Trophy as team MVP.
Grimaldi earned a bachelor's degree history. He was inducted into the Corning-Painted Post Sports Hall of Fame in 1988. At Corning East High School, he was a three-sport star, playing football and basketball in addition to lacrosse. Grimaldi also earned lacrosse All-America honors in high school.
Grimaldi's fellow Upstate Lacrosse Foundation Hall of Fame inductees include Matt Abbott, Brett Bucktooth, Josh Dennis, Beth Ames Hewitt, Dick Pepper, Carl "Ket" Weist and the 1971 Cornell men's lacrosse team.
