GENEVA, N.Y.—Hobart College Head Football Coach Kevin DeWall '00 recently welcomed three new coaches to his staff for the 2021 season. Geneva native Nick Quartaro will serve as the running backs coach, Ryan Hofmann '20 will be an offensive skill assistant coach and Liam Murphy '18 will be an assistant offensive line coach.

A member of the Geneva Sports Hall of Fame, Quartaro brings more than 35 years of coaching experience to the Statesmen. He has served as a head coach at Drake and Fordham universities and at New Hampton (Iowa) High School. Quartaro was the special teams coordinator on Dennis Green's staff at Northwestern, an associate head coach under Bill Snyder at Kansas State, assistant head coach for Dan McCarney at Iowa State, associate head coach for Mark Mangino at Kansas and assistant head coach at North Texas. Most recently, he was the director of player development at Rutgers.

Quartaro is returning to Hobart, having previously served as an assistant coach for the football and baseball teams as well as serving as the Colleges' first full-time sports information director early in his professional career.

A graduate of the University of Iowa, Quartaro was a three-year letterman for the Hawkeyes, earning Academic All-Big Ten honors as a junior. The placekicker was Iowa's leading scorer during his junior and senior seasons. Quartaro twice broke the school record for longest field goal, booting a 47-yarder during his sophomore season and eclipsing that mark a year later with a 50-yard field goal. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in journalism.

Hofmann was a three-year letter winner as a Statesman quarterback. In 25 career games, he completed 56 percent of his passes for 4,080 yards and 41 touchdowns. As a senior, Hofmann led the Statesmen to a 9-2 overall record, including a 30-10 victory at Cortland in the New York State Bowl. Earlier that year, he threw for a career-high 380 yards and a pair of TDs in Hobart's win over Rowan. Hofmann earned All-Liberty League honorable mention as a junior after he led the conference in pass efficiency (149.2) and yards per pass (7.85). He tied the Hobart record for TD passes in a game with six in the 2018 win over Morrisville State.

In addition to coaching, Hofmann is an assistant director of admissions at Hobart and William Smith. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in psychology.

Murphy was a four-year offensive lineman for the Hobart football team. He helped the Statesmen to a 35-9 record during his career, including two NCAA playoff appearances. Murphy was a member of the 2014 team's 12-1 campaign that saw the Statesmen advance to the NCAA quarterfinals. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in classics, classical languages, literature and linguistics.

Hobart opens the 2021 season Friday, Sept. 3, at Alfred. The Statesmen will play their home opener against Morrisville State on Saturday, Sept. 11.
