Fridel leads Statesmen at SUNY Poly

UTICA, N.Y.—Led by first-year Matt Fridel, the Hobart College cross country team finished third at the SUNY Poly Short Course Invitational this morning. Fridel and Jonathan Garcia both placed in the top 20 of the 65-runner field.

Fridel traversed the 6-kilometer course in 20:51.5 to finish in 12th place. Garcia finished in 18th place with a time of 21:28.9. Two more Statesmen placed in the top 30. Henry Loudon was 26th in 21:52.2 and Ian Albreski was 28th in 22:00.9. Stewart Falso completed Hobart's team score, placing 31st in 22:09.6.

SUNY Cobleskill's Eamon Sullivan led the Fighting Tigers to victory, taking the individual title with a time of 19:02.5. He was 9.2 seconds ahead of teammate and runner-up Dillon Vandemortel. 

Cobleskill posted a team score of 24, 11 clear of second place Oneonta. Hobart (98), Hudson Valley Community College (121), SUNY Poly (125), Utica (152) and Sage (183) rounded out the seven-team field. Mohawk Valley Community College and Herkimer Community College also entered runners in the race, but did not have enough entries to record a team score.

The Statesmen will be back in action Saturday, Sept. 11 when they race in the Hamilton Short Course Invitational.
