Two members of the Hobart cross country team were recognized by the Liberty League for their performances last week. Senior Jonathan Garcia was named the Performer of the Week and first-year James Nelson was named the Rookie of the Week.

Garcia paced the Statesmen at the Hamilton Tune-up on Saturday, placing 38th out of 117 runners with a time of 17:33.9. Garcia has led the Statesmen in every race he has run this season, including a first-place finish at the Cross Country Only Championships on Oct. 15.

Nelson followed close behind, finishing 41st with a time of 17:39.5 at Hamilton. In his second 5k of the season, Nelson improved his time by 42 seconds to achieve his second top-50 finish. His highest finish of the season came at the CCOC's, where he landed in 12th place with a time of 29.48.0.

The Statesmen will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 29, as they head to Poughkeepsie, New York, to run in the Liberty League Championships at 1 p.m.
