William Smith edges Dickinson 5-4, wins Walker Cup

BOSTON, Mass.—The 22nd-ranked William Smith College squash team captured its sixth College Squash Association Championship title in program history winning the Walker Cup with a 5-4 victory over No. 21 Dickinson at Harvard this morning. William Smith won back-to-back Walker Cups in 2006 and 2007. In addition, the Herons won the Epps Cup in 2009, 2013 and 2018. The Herons wrap up their season with a 14-4 overall record after winning their final three matches of the season.
 
Today at the Harvard Squash Courts, William Smith won a tight battle with the Red Devils. Only three of the matches were decided in three games. Four of the matches were decided in four games and two were completed in five.
 
In the No. 7 spot, Jo Pacheco defeated Cate Moll, 11-6, 11-5, 12-10. With the win, Pacheco improved to 15-3 this season, including an 8-1 mark in the No. 7 spot. Jada Smith-Padmore bested Whitney Finney, 11-5, 3-11, 11-9, 11-4, in the No. 6 spot. It was Smith-Padmore's 11th win of the season. She is 3-1 in the No. 6 spot this season. Shante Frank and Laila Selim needed five games to win their matches. In the No. 5 spot, Frank knocked off Eloise Nimoityn, 11-9, 8-11, 5-11, 11-9, 11-9. Frank is 13-4 this season, including a 5-2 mark in the No. 5 spot. Selim rallied from a two-game deficit to knock off Lindsay Kuracina at No. 2. Selim won the match, 5-11, 4-11, 11-6, 12-10, 12-10. She is a team-best 11-2 in the No. 2 spot and is 13-5 on the season.
 
Lark Ervasti clinched the overall victory for the Herons with a 3-0 victory in the No. 4 spot. She beat Anna O'Connor, 11-7, 11-7, 12-10. Ervasti has won seven straight matches and is 13-1 on the season.
 
Three of Dickinson's four wins were four-game victories. They won matches in the No. 1, No. 3, No. 8 and No. 9 spots of the lineup.
 
The Herons will be back in action next weekend, March 4-6, when it heads to Philadelphia for the CSA Individual Championships.
