3/29/2022 12:08:00 PM

GENEVA, N.Y.—Tomorrow's forecast of winter weather and cold temperatures has forced a change to the William Smith lacrosse game against St. John Fisher. The game will now be played on Stiles Field in the Poole Family Dome. The opening draw is scheduled for 4 p.m.

Due to fire code which limits occupancy of the Dome, only spectators on the teams' pass lists will be admitted to the game. Fans who can't make the trip to Geneva can follow all the action with Live Stats and HWS All-Access video. The game will be broadcast on WHWS-FM (105.7 in Geneva).

Tomorrow will be the fifth game against a nationally-ranked opponent for the Herons, who are eighth in the IL Women/IWLCA poll and fourth in the Nike/USA Lacrosse Magazine poll. The Cardinals are 25th in the IL Women/IWLCA poll.

The Herons are 6-1 this season and are coming off a 13-5 victory over nationally-ranked St. Lawrence. William Smith used an 8-1 run in the second half to hand the Saints their first loss of the season. The Herons enter the week averaging 14.0 goals per game while allowing 7.29 goals per game. William Smith is 27th in the nation in scoring defense.

The Herons are led offensively by the duo of Anna Murphy and Allie McGinty who have 28 points each. Murphy has 20 goals and eight assists while McGinty has eight goals and 20 assists. Maddie Montgomery is right behind them with 27 points thanks to a team-best 21 goals and six assists. Molly Davis has a team-best 40 draw controls. Maura Smeader has played a majority of the minutes in goal. She is 6-1 with a 7.21 goals against average and a .500 save percentage. She leads the Liberty League in both categories and is 18th in the nation in GAA.

St. John Fisher is 1-4 this season and is looking to bounce back from back-to-back losses last week. The Cardinals were defeated by nationally-ranked Brockport, 12-9, on Saturday. Brittanyu Halpin leads the team with 14 points on 13 goals and an assist. She also leads the team with seven caused turnovers. Courtney O'Day has a team best four assists. Sydney Carpenter has 29 draw controls and Lilly Goodsell leads the team with 12 ground balls. Goodsell has played every minute in goal and is 1-4 with a 10.20 GAA and a .393 save percentage.

Tomorrow's game will be the 18th meeting between William Smith and St. John Fisher. The Cardinals hold a slight 9-8 edge in the series, including three straight victories. The Herons are 4-3 against St. John Fisher in Geneva. The series has been tight with the last six meetings being decided by a goal. The Cardinals won both meetings in 2021, including a 10-9 decision in Waterville, Maine, in the third round of the NCAA tournament.
