Herons win 3rd straight, edge Diplomats 5-4

LANCASTER, Pa.—The 13th-ranked William Smith College squash team edged 18th-ranked Franklin and Marshall College 5-4 at the Mayser Squash Courts. With the victory, the Herons are now 8-2 on the season.

  • Lark Ervasti opened the match with a sweep in the No. 7 spot. She dispatched Gabby Ramos, 11-5, 11-5, 11-6. Ervasti is 5-3 on the season, including a 3-1 mark at No. 7.
  • In the No. 6 spot, Jada Smith-Padmore defeated Zoe Quayle, 11-6, 11-4, 11-9. Smith-Padmore is now 8-2 on the season and has won both of her matches at No. 6 this season.
  • Rafaela Albuja Sanchez improved to 8-2 with her win at No. 1. She beat Audrey Berling, 11-3, 6-11, 11-5, 11-5. Albuja Sanchez has played all 10 matches in the No. 1 spot.
  • After losing the first game, Jessica Finnerty cruised to an 11-13, 11-6, 11-4, 11-9 victory over Iman Jaikishan. Finnerty is now 3-4 on the season.
  • Anna O'Connor topped Zarine Gidwaney, 11-4, 13-11, 11-9, 11-4, at No. 5. O'Connor is a team-best 9-1 on the season. She is 4-0 at No. 5.
  • In the closest match of the day, Shante Frank was edged by Catherine Costin, 11-5, 6-11, 5-11, 12-10, 11-7.

William Smith will be back in action tomorrow, Jan. 16, when it heads to Washington, D.C., to take on 19th-ranked Georgetown University at 3 p.m. The match is part of the 2023 Squash on Fire event.
