The nationally-ranked William Smith College lacrosse team is set to open Liberty League play this weekend, March 24-25, when it welcomes Clarkson University and St. Lawrence University to Geneva. Opening draw on Friday against the Golden Knights is scheduled for 4 p.m. The next day the Herons and Saints will play at 2 p.m.
Â
Friday's game will be played on Boswell Field. Saturday's contest will move inside the Poole Family Dome. Due to the limitations of fire code, there will be no general admission for the SLU game. The only spectators admitted to the Dome will be those on the teams' pass lists.
Â
The Herons are 5-0 for the first time since 2009. William Smith is coming off a 12-9 come-from-behind victory over then-No. 5 Salisbury last Saturday.
Maddie Montgomery had four goals and Maua Smeader made a career-high 13 saves in the victory.
Â
Clarkson is 5-2 overall, 0-1 in Liberty League play. The Golden Knights are looking to bounce back from a 15-9 loss to Rochester Institute of Technology last Saturday.
Â
The Saints, who are ranked 22nd in the IWLCA Poll and 20th in the USA Lacrosse Magazine poll, are 3-2 overall and 1-0 in Liberty League play. The Saints needed overtime to defeat Stevenson 11-10 on Tuesday.
