A pair of Hobart College baseball players were honored by the Liberty League this afternoon. First-year designated hitter
Will Jones was named the Co-Rookie of the Week, while junior catcher
Ty Gallagher earned a spot on the weekly honor roll.

Hobart baseball was reinstated as a varsity sport this season following a 27-year hiatus. The Statesmen went 2-2 last week, defeating Elmira 20-10 on Wednesday and St. Lawrence 4-3 on Saturday.

Jones hit .375 (6-16) with a triple, seven RBIs and three runs scored last week. He was 3-for-6 in the win over the Pioneers. His three hits included a bases loaded triple. Jones finished the game with six RBI, the most by a Statesman this season. He finished the week with a 2-for-5 showing at the dish at St. Lawrence, notching an RBI and a run scored in a 12-11 loss to the Saints.

Gallagher hit a team-high .538 (7-13) with two doubles, a home run and 10 RBI last week. At Elmira, he went 2-for-4 with two RBI, three runs scored and a stolen base. He helped Hobart put together back-to-back wins for the first time this season when he clubbed a three-run home run over the right field wall on Saturday. In the second game of the twin bill, he was 1-for-2 with two walks in a 5-4 loss. Gallagher wrapped up the series with a 3-for-4 effort that included a pair of doubles, three RBI and a run scored.

Gallagher has started all 18 games this season and is batting a team-leading .382. He paces the Statesmen in doubles (5), triples (1), home runs (3), RBIs (19), total bases (37), slugging percentage (.673) and walks (15).

Hobart (4-14) will be back in action Tuesday, April 11 when the Statesmen visit Keuka College (4-13) for a non-conference game scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
