GENEVA, N.Y.–Members of the Hobart and William Smith cross country teams competed in the annual Seneca7, a seven-leg relay race that encircles Seneca Lake. More than a dozen Statesmen and Herons teamed up to complete this year's race.
The 77.7-mile race is broken down into 21 legs. It begins in Geneva, heads south along the west side of the lake to Watkins Glen and returns on the east side to Seneca Lake State Park. Each team consists of seven runners completing three legs each.
Sixteen members of the HWS cross country teams on three separate teams competed in this year's race.
"Jonathan's Dawgs" finished third in the mixed teams category and eighth overall, posting a total time of 8:53:24. Dylan Meyer, who transferred to HWS at the start of the second semester and will run with the Statesmen next fall,

Abigail Cole and
Sean Mucheru averaged 6:51 per mile.
"HWSXC" was comprised of
Sean Moran,
Madison Sanders,
Jacob Williams,
Hope Johnson,
Erik Nebel,
Bethany Poirier, and
Connor Gasper. They circumnavigated the lake in 9:21.36 to finish eighth among mixed teams and 16th overall.
James Nelson and
Talya Peters also ran for a team consisting of former HWS students. Due to a numbers shortage, they each ran extra legs of the race, completing 16 miles individually.
