The Hobart College tennis team will travel to Ithaca, New York, this weekend to compete in the 2023 Liberty League Tennis Championships. The Statesmen received a first-round bye after clinching the No. 2 seed in the regular season and will take on the winner of No. 3 seeded Vassar and No. 6 seeded St. Lawrence on Saturday at 5 p.m. The matches will take place at the Reis Tennis Center on the campus of Cornell University.

The Statesmen finished the regular season with a 15-4 overall record with a 7-1 mark in league play and are ranked No. 13 in the ITA's Northeast Region and No. 2 in NCAA's Region II rankings. Hobart earned the second seed in this weekend's tournament after losing the head-to-head tiebreaker with Skidmore. Hobart is coming off a 3-0 conference week after defeating RIT 9-0, RPI 5-4, and St. Lawrence 9-0.

The Saints (7-8, 3-5) are set to take on the Brewers (11-5, 6-2) in the semifinals on Friday at 5 p.m. Last time the Statesmen saw its two potential opponents, Hobart swept St. Lawrence and  topped Vassar 7-2.

Top-seeded Skidmore (10-7, 7-1) will take on the winner of fifth-seeded Union (7-8, 4-4) and fourth-seeded RPI (10-6, 6-2) on Saturday at 2:15 p.m. The Dutchmen will take on the Engineers on Friday at 2:15 p.m. for a spot in the semis.

The No. 10 singles player in the Northeast and back-to-back Liberty League Singles Performer of the Week, junior
Sean Pesin leads Hobart in the No. 1 singles spot and the No. 1 doubles position with senior
Jett Wright. Pesin is 16-6 in singles play this year, 10-5 in dual matches. He was 5-2 in the conference and posted six wins over regionally ranked opponents. In doubles action, Pesin and Wright are 17-9, 11-5 in dual matches. The Statesmen duo went 5-1 in conference play with two wins over ranked opponents. They are the No. 3 seeded doubles tandem in NCAA's Region II and No. 12 seeded doubles duo in ITA's Northeast Region.

Nick Fischer and sophomore
Hyat Oyer are on 14-match win streaks in singles play and have played a pivotal role in Hobart's success this season. Fischer is 19-4 and went a perfect 7-0 in the conference. He is also 16-3 in doubles action with first-year
Aidan Staunton. Oyer is 15-5 in singles play and was also perfect in the Liberty League.

The Brewers enter the weekend ranked No. 32 in the nation, No. 15 in the Northeast and No. 4 in NCAA Region II. Vassar is led by the No. 19 regionally ranked singles player, Fernando Bauermeister. He is 10-6 in the No. 1 singles position and went 7-2 in conference play. Bauermeister and Nolan Kubiak are 11-5 in the No. 1 doubles position and went 8-1 in the Liberty League.

The Saints are led by Cole Hamilton, who was 9-5 in singles play this season and 3-2 in the conference. Broderick Pinto and Adam Heilbronner were 8-5 in the No. 2 doubles position and were 3-3 in conference play.
