Senior Ian Albreski of the Hobart College cross country team was named to the 2023 Academic All-District® Men's Cross Country and Track and Field Team selected by College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA). This was Albreski's first time earning this distinction.

A native of Avon, Connecticut, Albreski concluded his career at HWS with many accomplishments. In his four years at Hobart, Albreski raced in 25 events for the Statesmen, posting four top-15 finishes.  In his senior season, he captained the cross country team, running in seven races. Albreski posted his best 8k time of 29:02.1 at the Liberty League Championships and a season-best 5k time of 17:41.1 at the Hamilton Tune-up. He posted his best finish at the Cross Country Only Conference Championships 8k on Oct. 15, when he placed eighth out of 72 runners after clocking in at 29:16.1.

Along with the Academic All-District® selection, Albreski has been named a Liberty League All-Academic selection three times, as well as being named the First Year Academic Achievement Award winner. He is an Arnold Memorial Scholar-Athlete Award recipient and a two-time Dr. Augustus H. "Gus" Hillman '26 Memorial Award winner. Albreski was also awarded the Coach Ron Fleury Cross Country Award in 2020.

Most recently, it was announced that Albreski was the recipient of a 2023 U.S. Student Fulbright Award to Germany, where he will serve as an English teaching assistant beginning in September. The Fulbright Program is the U.S. government's flagship international exchange program, providing full research grants and English teaching assistantships awarded for graduate study, research, or teaching opportunities in more than 140 countries. Albreski received this award after a successful collegiate career in the classroom. He has twice been awarded the Julius C. Blocker German Area Studies Fellowship, a recipient of the Newman Civic Fellowship, the Dr. Arnold N. Cohen '71, P'05 Phi Beta Kappa Book Prize as well as the Charles H. Hurd Prize in English and Comparative Literature.

Earlier this month, Albreski graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor's degree in English. He also received the Dean Benjamin P. Atkinson Award as well as the President's Civic Leadership Award.
