#16 Panthers ground #17 Herons

MIDDLEBURY, Vt.—The 17th-ranked William Smith College squash team was defeated by 16th-ranked Middlebury College 6-3 at the Bostwick Family Squash Center this afternoon. The Herons picked up victories in the top three spots of the lineup.
 
FOR THE RECORD
  • Middlebury is now 10-1 on the season.
  • The Herons are 7-3 overall.
 
MATCH SUMMARY
  • In the No. 2 spot, senior Laila Selim rallied to beat Isabella Ronda, 10-12, 12-10, 11-7, 12-10. Selim has won six straight matches and is now 7-3 overall on the year.
  • Sophomore Nathalie Sim continued her strong play in the No. 3 spot. She earned the Herons' second point in the match, defeating Eva Finney, 13-11, 11-6, 11-5. Sim is now 6-2 this year, playing all eight matches in the No. 3 spot.
  • Senior Rafa Albuja Sanchez won a tight match in five games. She came from two games down to beat Lindsey Burnham, 7-11, 8-11, 11-9, 11-7, 11-8.  Albuja Sanchez has won seven straight games and is 8-2 on the year.  
  • Middlebury won the match with five 3-0 sweeps in the bottom part of the ladder. Abby Holding clinched the overall victory edging Anna O'Connor in five games, 11-6, 8-11, 9-11, 11-9, 11-6.
 
UP NEXT
William Smith will be back in action next Saturday, Jan. 21, when it takes on Franklin and Marshall College. The match is scheduled to begin at Noon in the Smith Squash Center.
