#14 Herons cruise past Diplomats 7-2

GENEVA, N.Y.—The 14th-ranked William Smith College squash team cruised to a 7-2 victory on Senior Day at The Smith Squash Center this afternoon. The Herons posted six sweeps as they notched their eighth win of the season.
 
Prior to today's match, William Smith honored its six seniors, Kristen McCormick, Rafaela Albuja Sanchez, Lark Ervasti, Shante Frank, Jada Smith-Padmore and Diya Moolani.
 
FOR THE RECORD
  • William Smith is now 8-3 on the year.
  • The Diplomats are now 4-11.
 
MATCH SUMMARY
  • Albuja Sanchez continued her roll in the No. 1 spot, besting Gurlin Kaur, 11-9, 11-3, 11-6. She is now 9-2 on the year, playing all 11 matches in the No. 1 spot.
  • At. No. 3, sophomore Nathalie Sim, topped Catherine Costin, 11-4, 11-2, 11-7. Sim has seven wins, all in the No. 3 spot.
  • Junior Ann O'Connor knocked off Zarine Gidwaney, 11-5, 11-8, 13-11 at No. 4. O'Connor is 6-2 since returning to the lineup in January.
  • In the No. 7 spot, Frank beat Iman Jaikishan, 11-2, 11-6, 11-9. It was Frank's sixth win of the season. She is 6-1 in the No. 7 spot.
  • Ervasti swept Joey Ho, 11-4, 11-3, 11-4 at No. 8.  Ervasti is 5-3 this season. Her five wins have come at No. 8.
  • Sophomore Jess Finnerty only lost nine points as she cruised past Anastasia Petrosky, 11-5, 11-2, 11-2.
  • Smith-Padmore defeated Mia Todd, 11-6, 6-11, 14-12, 11-8. It was her fifth win of the season.
 
UP NEXT
William Smith will be back in action next Saturday, Feb. 3, when it heads to Clinton, N.Y., for its final tune-up before the Liberty League tournament. The match against Hamilton College is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
