The 16th-ranked Hobart volleyball team will be back in action this weekend when it travels to take on Bard College on Friday in nonconference action. The Statesmen will then open conference play against No. 10 Vassar College the following day.
First serve between the Statesmen and the Raptors is set for 7 p.m. in the Stevenson Athletic Center as a part of Bard's Inclusive Excellence night celebration. Hobart will be honoring the One Love Foundation and the LGBTQ+ community as a part of the Inclusive Excellence celebration. ABOUT THE STATESMEN
- Hobart (10-4) is coming off a week's rest and is ranked No. 16 in the AVCA national poll.
- Graduate student Andrew Kim leads the nation in kills per set (5.85) and points per set (6.62). First-year Daniel Sappia is sixth in the UVC with 3.46 kills per set.
- First-year setter Zack Farren runs the Statesmen offense, averaging a league-leading 9.91 assists per set, which is fifth in the nation.
- Hobart's scrappy defensive efforts have produced some of the conference's best performances. The Statesmen rank second in the UVC in opponent kills (9.28) and opponent assists (8.76). First-year libero Gavin Meador leads the team and ranks fourth in the conference with 2.41 digs per set.
- First-years Nate Magni and Grayson Getz combine for 49 blocks on the season, posing a threat at the net for Hobart.
- Sappia (7th) and Kim (5th) rank in the top-10 in the conference in service aces per set, as both have tallied 20 each through 14 games.
ABOUT THE RAPTORS
- Bard (5-7) is coming off a 3-1 win over CCNY on Tuesday.
- Angel Obergh leads the Raptors with 3.02 kills per set, 3.70 points per set, and 2.12 digs per set.
- Georgi Chikolov runs Bard's offense, averaging 7.90 assists per set.
- The Raptors are led at the net by Lincoln Grisso with 23 blocks on the season.
ABOUT THE BREWERS
- Vassar (12-3, 2-0) is ranked No. 10 in the AVCA national poll and will take on Buffalo State and Elmira College before Saturday's matchup with the Statesmen.
- Jacob Kim leads the Brewers in kills per set (2.87) and points per set (3.51). Both of which rank eighth in the conference.
- AJ Erickson leads Vassar from the setting position, averaging 5.40 assists per set.
- The Brewers play a strong defensive game and rank first in the conference in blocks (2.25 per set). Gavin Akoto (31), Vaughn Ramsey (29) and Tristan Christofferson (28) lead Vassar at the net.
- Tucker Shearn leads the UVC in digs, averaging 2.88 per set which ranks 25th in the nation.
